Slaves To Fashion
Malick Sidibe is one of my favorite photographers. I’m hoping he visits NYC some time in the very near future…

I recently visited Ogilvy & Mather in their fairly new offices in the Chocolate Factory in Hell’s Kitchen. I had been there in early February for O&M’s February Show. In typical NYC art opening form The February Show was a packed house and I wasn’t able to get a lot of unobstructed views of some of the better pieces of art on the walls. I took advantage of the lack of bodies during my most recent visit and took these photos. These images are part of Xaviera Simmons’ contribution to the show and to the opening, Simmons’ also helped to set the mood for the opening by DJing a monster set.
Why is that NYC, in my estimation, seems to be the only city where the homeless community consistently wears winter clothing during the hottest and most humid days of summer? This question has been “haunting” me for years now. I took this image from my bicycle while riding through Chelsea. This person has clearly taken the whole winter clothing thing to the next level. If memory serves, it was in the 90s all day. I really have no idea what was happening underneath all the plastic body armor. Was it a man? Was it a woman? Was it a tranny trying to cut weight? We’ll never know…
